PROCEDURES FOR VISA APPLICATION

HOW TO APPLY FOR A NIGERIA VISA

Visa section at the Nigeria High Commission Dar Es Salaam Tanzania, opens from 9am to 3pm Monday- Friday except during public holidays, both in Tanzania and Nigeria. A notice will be placed on the notice board during such holidays. Visa section can be reached on telephone Numbers: +255 754 256 660, +255 785 289 835 or through Email: nisdsm@nhcdsm.or.tz.

REQUIREMENTS FOR VISA TO NIGERIA

Nigeria High Commission Dares Salaam Tanzania is now on-line for completion of forms for Visa/Entry permit to Nigeria. However, payment is not yet online, you can pay through specified banks accounts hereunder.

Forms will only be given to applicant with the following requirements:
1. Valid passport for at least 6 months.
2. Two Coloured passport size photographs 2 inch x 2 inch
3. Invitation letter from a Nigerian inviting the applicant, accompanied by a photocopy of the data page of his/her Valid Nigerian E-Passport to confirm genuine and effective link or relationship.
4. Non Tanzanian passport holders are required to attach a photocopy of their immigration status in Tanzania showing permanent Resident card or work permit.
5. Introductory letter from work place of the applicant.

Collection and submission of completed Visa forms/ Entry permit and issuance of processed Visa is from 9am to 3pm Monday - Friday, and this takes 2 working days from the date of submission, for collection.

PAYMENT FOR VISA FEE.

Payment for Visa fee is directly to the bank and not cash to the High commission. Applicants should note that, the commission operates two different accounts, Tanzania Shillings and USD. The Shillings account is for Tanzanian citizens and the USD is for foreigners and Tanzanians presenting other passports other than Tanzanian passports

Please note: Payment may be made in any branch of the bank (NBC Bank). Tellers are collected and submitted along with duly completed Visa application forms.

Below are Visa categories and requirements for Visa/ Entry permit to Nigeria.

REQUIREMENTS:

DIPLOMATIC VISA

WHO QUALIFIES

  • Visiting heads of State and their families
  • Top officials of Government and their families
  • Diplomatic and their families
  • UN Diplomatic Passport holders and Laissers passez
  • Members of accredited Diplomatic Missions
  • Members of accredited International nongovernmental organization
  • Members of International organization Requirements for the issuance of Diplomatic/ Official Visa
  • Valid Diplomatic or official passports
  • Note Verbale

BUSINESS VISA:

WHO QUALIFIES?

  • Business men and investors coming to Nigeria for Business discussions.

Requirements for the issuance of business Visa,

a. Passport valid for at least 6 months
b. Acceptance of IR (Immigration Responsibilities) -Invitation letter
c. Introduction letter from the applicant company
d. A valid return ticket
e. While a - d above apply, self sponsored business men may not require letter of invitation but will be required to show evidence of sufficient funds.

TOURIST/VISITORS VISA:

WHO QUALIFIES?

  • Persons wishing to visit Nigeria for the purpose of tourism
  • Individuals who wants to visit family members
  • Medical and religious purpose

Requirements for the issuance of Tourist Visa,

a. Passport valid for at least 6 months
b. Valid Airline return ticket
c. Evidence of sufficient funds
d. Evidence of Hotel Reservation
e. Acceptance of IR (Immigration Responsibilities) -Invitation letter

Validity

  • Not valid for employment

TRANSIT VISA:

WHO QUALIFIES?

  • Travelers who are transiting through Nigeria for onward journey

Requirements for the issuance of Transit Visa,

  • Applicants for transit visas must submit copies of their onward tickets and visa to their destinations.

TEMPORARY WORK PERMIT VISA (TWP):

WHO QUALIFIES?

Expects invited by corporate bodies to provide specialized skilled services, as after sales installation, maintenance, repairs of machines & equipment .

Requirements for the issuance of Temporary work permit (TWP)
a. Passport with at least 6 months validity
b. A cabled copy of Comptroller General of Immigration Service's approval
c. Confirmed Airline Return ticket

 SUBJECT TO REGULARIZATION (STR) VISA:

WHO QUALIFIES?

  • Expatriates employed by individuals, corporate bodies or government (i.e to take up employment in Nigeria)

Requirements for the issuance of STR Visa
a. Passport with at least 6 months validity
b. Expatriate Quota Approval from Ministry of Interior
c. Five copies of letter of offer of employment
d. Five copies of letter of acceptance of offer by expatriate
e. Five copies of credentials/ certificates and curriculum vitae, all vetted by a relevant official of Nigeria High Commission/ Embassy (English certificate translated copy where applicable)
f. Evidence of payment (Bank Teller)

VISA ON ARRIVAL (VOA):

The Visa on arrival (VOA) this facility is available to frequently travelled High Net Worth investors and intending visitors who may not be able to obtain Visa at the Nigerian Missions/ Embassies in their countries of residence due to absence of Nigerian Mission in those countries or exigencies of urgent business travels.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Frequently travelled Business Persons of international Repute.
  • Executives of multi-national companies
  • Holders of United Nations Laissez-Passier.
  • Holders of African Union Laissez-Passier.
  • Holders of ECOWAS Laissez-Passier.
  • Holders of any other official travel documents of other recognized International Organizations who intend to visit Nigeria.

NOTE: Visa on Arrival is available to citizens of all countries except ECOWAS nationals who do not require visa to visit Nigeria and other countries which Nigeria has entered into Visa Abolition agreements.

HOW TO APPLY FOR VISA ON ARRIVAL.

STEP 1: Get Visa on Arrival Approval Letter.

There are two methods to obtaining V.O.A Approval letter, applying through emails or person application by representative in Nigeria.

APPLYING THROUGH EMAIL:

NOTE: After Approval, a letter will be forwarded to your email with a copy sent to the airline stated in your  application and Immigration Port of entry.

APPLYING THROUGH YOUR REPRESENTATIVE IN NIGERIA:

1. Contact your representative (Business Partners, Company representatives, Protocol/Liaison officer etc.) Applicant/Representative shall write an application letter to the Comptroller General of Immigration, NIS H.Q Abuja stating the following via this email address -oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng

  • Name of Applicant indication nationality.
  • Passport number of applicant.
  • Purpose of visit
  • Proposed date of visit.
  • Proposed Port of entry
  • Flight itinerary
  • Address in Nigeria or Hotel Reservation.

Attach the following documents;

  • Copy of Passport data page.
  • Copy of Airline Return ticket Reservation.

2. The representatives files a formal request for Visa on Arrival Approval on your behalf by writing an application letter to the Comptroller General of Immigration NIS HQ Abuja stating the following.

  • Purpose of visit.
  • Proposed Airline
  • Address in Nigeria
  • Email address of the visitor.
  • Acceptance of Immigration Responsibility.

3. The representative shall attach the following documents in support of the application.

  • Copy of visitors Passport data page
  • Copy of Airline Return ticket Reservation.

NOTE: After an Approval letter is obtained, (Hard Copy) by your representatives, copies of the same document will be forwarded to the Airline stated in the application and Immigration Port of entry.

STEP 2: PAY FOR VISA.

  • Fill in the application form with your correct details and make timeline.
  • The request shall be processed and approval issued within 48hours (2 working days).
  • Payment online via NIS official website; www.immigration.gov.ng
  • Online payment may also be made at point of arrival subject to presentation of visa on Arrival.  Approval letter; master card, visa and American express card are acceptable.

STEP 3: Arrive at the port of entry and proceed for Immigration clearance. Upon arrival at the Port of entry proceed to the desk marked, "VISA ON ARRIVAL".

For issuance of entry visa. Present the following documents in hard copy at the Port of entry,

  • Visa Approval letter (Pre-approval visa letter). Valid for 14days from the date of issuance.
  • Evidence of online Payment.
  • Valid passport with minimum of six months validity.
  • Two recent Passport size photographs.

NOTE: Successful online payment is not approval. Applicant should not proceed to Nigeria until receipt of 'Visa on Arrival Approval letter'.

All applicants must strictly comply with the applicable requirements otherwise the passport will be returned without Visa endorsement and the fee paid is non-refundable.

In this case, an applicant may have to pay another fee to re-submit another application.

Other services rendered to Nigerians living in Tanzania includes among others;

(1) Emergency Travel Certificate (E.T.C)
(2) Identification letter

EMERGENCY TRAVEL CERTIFICATE (E.T.C).

Eligibility:

Nigerians residing in Tanzania whose Passport is expired or lost and children born in Tanzania by Nigerian parents and visiting Nigerian to Tanzania whose Passport got lost on transit.
NOTE: The Emergency Travel Certificate (E.T.C) is to enable them travel to Nigeria and valid only for one journey to Nigeria.

Requirements:

  • Application letter.
  • Photocopy of applicants Passport data page.
  • Police report for loss of Passport
  • Two (2) Passport size photographs
  • Birth certificate for children born in Tanzania by Nigerian Parents
  • Medical report may be invited for an interview

IDENTIFICATION LETTER:

Eligibility:

This facility is available to Nigerian residents in Tanzania whose passport is expired and children born in Tanzania by Nigerian Parents.

NOTE: The identification letter is to enable them travel to Nairobi (Kenya) to re-issue their Passport or to get a fresh Passport (children born in Tanzania). Hence the installation of Passport machine in Tanzania is ongoing.

Requirements:

  • Application Letter
  • Photocopy of Passport data page.
NOTE: This service is "FREE" for all Nigerians.

NOTE THAT:
1. It is always advisable for applicants to submit their application on time as it takes two working days to process a visa except STR which takes longer time.
2. Visa fees, once paid is not-refundable. Applicants are therefore, advised to clear with the receptionist before payment.
3. For non-Tanzanians, a resident permit is required to qualify you for a Visa to Nigeria.
